Trusted Pediatric Dental Care in Poway, CA
Your Child's First Visit
At Poway Dental Arts, we focus on providing the most comprehensive pediatric dental care possible. Our pediatric dental specialists customize each and every one of our child's dental services to your little one's individual needs!
Pediatric Dental Care Checkups
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentists (AAPD) advises that children be seen for a checkup every 6 months. These visits allow Dr. Rich to closely monitor new changes in your child’s mouth and ensure that you, as a parent, have all that you need to ensure the health of your child's smile. If your child is more susceptible to cavities or decay, Dr. Rich may recommend that they come in for more frequent visits. Additionally, he will refer you to a kids orthodontist if he deems it necessary.
Teeth-Strengthening Fluoride Application
Dental teeth-strengthening fluoride treatments are safe and effective in decreasing the number of cavities in children. Dr. Rich often recommends this treatment along with dental sealants to help protect your child’s teeth. This teeth-strengthening mineral acts as a shield for the tooth’s outer enamel and can actually reverse early dental decay in some children.
Protective Dental Sealants
Protective dental sealants are thin coats of plastic painted onto your child’s back teeth to protect their deep grooves and depressions from accumulating bacteria and food particles. Studies show that 88% of cavities in American school-aged children are caused by food and bacteria being caught in rear molars.
At our children's dental center, we typically apply a protective sealant to your child’s back teeth, premolars, and molars. The sealant is formulated to last several years, but we will continue to check it during your child’s regular dental appointments.
If your child is anxious, has special needs, or just needs extra help staying calm and comfortable in the dental chair, Dr. Rich may recommend laughing gas. This gas is a completely safe way to help children to receive the pediatric dental care they need - free from anxiety and fear.
Once the dentistry for kids treatment is complete, the gas will be completely out of their system after just a few minutes. At Poway Dental Arts, our goal is to always care for your child’s dental health in the safest way possible.
Tooth-Colored Dental Fillings
Treatment for cavities in children depends on how severe the decay is as well as each child’s age and risk of future cavities. At Poway Dental Arts, our kids dentist typically treats cavities with discreet, effective tooth-colored fillings.
Gentle Tooth Extractions
Sometimes teeth are too badly decayed to save. In these cases, Dr. Rich will perform a gentle tooth extraction. An extraction may also be recommended if the tooth is severely fractured or is crowding other healthy teeth.
Wisdom Teeth Removal
Since wisdom teeth can cause damaging crowding - or, in some cases, cannot fully erupt - Dr. Rich may recommend extractions. At our child's dental care center, our pediatric dental specialists take a panoramic radiograph of your child's entire jaw, so we can see the size, location, and developmental stage of the wisdom teeth in consideration.
